The Kingdom Unleashed: Exploring the Passion of Kansas City Chiefs Fans

What it Means to be a Kansas City Chiefs Super Fan

Kansas City has a lot going for it. That includes world-famous barbecue, gorgeous architecture from well known designers, and a plethora of educational museums. In addition, it’s got quite the sports culture, led in many ways by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City Chiefs fans are some of the most vocal and proud fans in the NFL. Coming off an impressive Super Bowl win in 2023, Chiefs superfans have every right to brag and boast their colors for all to see. The Chiefs were established in 1960 and won their first Super Bowl in 1970, but it was a long 50 years of waiting until their next Super Bowl win in 2020. Led by the star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs and their fans have taken back their pride. Gambling.com released a study in 2023 using a social listening tool, Linkfluence, to determine which fans of the NFL were the most vocal on social media. Not surprisingly, Chiefs fans were ranked the third most outspoken fanbase in all of the NFL.

The Chiefs have fan clubs located in every major city in the United States, as well as dozens scattered throughout the globe. Chiefs fans have a strong community-based volunteering program that encourages all fans to help those in need.

Kansas City Chiefs Fans on Gameday

Chiefs superfans plan their Sundays around Kansas City Chiefs games. GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri is more of a spectacle than a football stadium. Constant sold-out crowds and a capacity of more than 76,000 makes the stadium essentially become the capital of Missouri during game days.

Game day begins with a massive tailgate which opens four hours before kickoff. Thousands of fans arrive early to celebrate the Chiefs, to consume an ungodly amount of food and drinks and enjoy the comradery of their fellow fans. Barbecue is the name of the game at Kansas City Chiefs tailgates, with fans from all around the world coming together to try each other’s delicious smoked meats and sauces. As the tailgates start winding down and the fans head into GEHA Field, another tradition begins with the singing of the National Anthem. All 76,000+ fans at the game know to shout, “home of the Chiefs!” instead of “home of the brave” towards the end of the National Anthem. A sea of red and gold engulfs GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium every home game as Chiefs fans prove time and time again they are some of the most supportive fans in the NFL.

Joel Smith, a resident of Kansas City, is a diehard fan of the Chiefs. But more than wearing all the right gear and having a perfect Instagram – lovenmychiefs – Smith decided to take his dedication one step further by getting a player’s name tattooed on his arm. After tracking the Chiefs tight end down following a training session in August 2016, Smith got the players’ John Hancock on his left forearm. Then, just a few hours later, Smith took to Instagram to share his new tattoo, forever capturing the name and number, 87, for all the world to see. When reached for comment by The Kansas City Star, the player in question explained, “Needless to say, me and that man have a bond that can never be broken.”

Memorable Moments in Kansas City Chiefs Fandom

The Kansas City Chiefs have had a lot to celebrate recently. The Chiefs have won the AFC West seven times in a row and won the Super Bowl in 2020 and 2023. Beside the Chiefs first Super Bowl win in 1970, it is hard to think of another era where the Chiefs fans have had more success and enthusiasm. Patrick Mahomes, 27, has already won multiple NFL MVP awards since he started his career. The Chiefs are again a team to beat this season.
