For nearly four decades U2 has been driving the alternative rock scene, melding different sounds from post-punk to hard rock to pop. Since the early ‘80s the band has not allowed more than five years to pass without releasing a new album, signing their first record deal after only four years of playing in their hometown of Dublin. Despite their humble beginnings, the band jumped on the fast track to stardom after their first album release in 1980, quickly transforming into one of the best-selling bands of all time.

U2 has adapted to each new generation of music lovers, while still carrying their timeless sound into each new decade. Their highly anticipated iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour is no exception. Check out this compilation of some of the most popular U2 music videos of all time to build up some excitement for the live event.

1. U2 – Sunday Bloody Sunday // Released in 1983
If you want a glimpse of how hard you’re expected to rock at a U2 concert, check out this video of the opening track from their War album. The song carries a militaristic drumbeat and sweet sounding harmonies, almost distracting from the fires blazing around this outdoor amphitheater at the live event.

2. U2 – Pride (In The Name Of Love) // Released in 1984
Influenced by the civil rights movement and featuring shots of their hometown, this track captures the young angst of many of U2’s early hits. The band performed the song to celebrate and honor President Obama’s inauguration in 2009, so we think it’s safe to say it’s a fan favorite.

3. U2 – With or Without You // Released in 1987
Longtime fans that enjoy being reminded of the days of cut-off tanks, feathered bangs, and long ponytails, will enjoy the sultry look of a young Bono in this music video. This iconic song is from their album, The Joshua Tree.

4. U2 – Sweetest Thing // Released in 1987
Bono abandons his “cool guy with shades” look in this elaborate apology video where we get to see a sweeter side of the rock star. It might just be one of the sweetest things you’ve ever seen.

5. U2 – One // Released in 1991
Sitting at table alone with memories flashing before our eyes, Bono takes us on a sad journey of a lost love. Bluesy guitar riffs accompany this oldie but goodie U2 staple.

6. U2 – Beautiful Day // Released in 2000
The inspirational melody in this popular track from their All That You Can’t Leave Behind album is sure to brighten your day. At the very least you’ll be amused by Bono wreaking havoc in an airport with occasional clips of the band rocking out on an airstrip.

7. U2 – Walk On // Released in 2001
The uplifting vocals and driving piano in this song makes for a good jam. The song has frequently served as an anthem for historic moments of heroism and activism. And the music video provides beautiful images of Rio de Janeiro, where it was shot in 2000.

8. U2 – Elevation // Released in 2001
If you’re looking for a music video with cheesy shots of U2 band members photoshopped into clips of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, look no further. Complete with flying elephants and band members, this is definitely one of U2’s quirkier artistic decisions.

9. U2 – Vertigo // Released in 2004
The dizzying images in this video are the back drop for the song that was their first single and opening track to their album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. The video won a Grammy in 2005 and U2’s guitar player, The Edge, called it “the mother of all rock tunes”. Needless to say, you won’t be disappointed.

10. U2 – Ordinary Love // Released in 2013
This more current U2 track was featured on the popular movie, Mandela, and the band performed it live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon during the premiere week. The popularity of this song shows that people just can’t get enough of U2’s catchy tunes and lyrics that emphasize a message of love and unity.

BONUS!

U2 – Every Breaking Wave // Released in 2014
Take a moment to reflect by listening to this beautiful song. You’ll feel re-energized by the soft vocals that steadily gain more power as the track progresses. We can’t wait to see this new song performed live on U2’s upcoming tour.
