When the MTV Video Music Awards nominations were announced last month, they caused no small amount of drama. Nominees Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift got into a Twitter tussle over female body shapes in pop music. Katy Perry threw in her two cents that Rihanna’s epic music video for “B***h Better Have My Money” should have been nominated. An overlooked Azealia Banks accused the awards of sexism and racism. And Beyoncé and T-Swift were once again both nominated for Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year, leading fans to wonder if Kanye West would repeat his infamous 2009 tantrum and storm the stage to play Yeezus (the VMAs are giving Kanye a special nod this year with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, so we’ll see!).
Yes, boys and girls, the drama is already on 10, and with serious contenders in all the major categories this year, the controversy is only going to grow when the winners are announced at the Miley Cyrus-hosted (!!!) ceremony on August 30. To heat things up even further, Pharrell, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, The Weeknd, Demi Lovato, A$AP Rocky, Tori Kelly and Twenty One Pilots will all be performing.
But why wait until then to join in on all the contentious fun? We recently surveyed Ticketmaster fans to get their take on who would win big at this year’s VMAs. Check out the real-time results below for fan predictions on Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Female Video, and Best Rock Video.
