10 Genre-Bending Artists To Watch in 2016

There’s something exceptionally beautiful about being uncategorized, undefined, and by nature, ever-evolving. While most musical artists tend to fit into a clear-cut genre, there are others who fall into a more ambiguous gray space between multiple styles and sounds. These are the artists whose obscurity often leads to the greatest innovation, and fingers-crossed, eventual fame and success.

As ardent music fans here at Ticketmaster, we keep our ears open for these genre-transcending artists year-round. Below are ten of those talented artists (in no particular order) who haven’t hit the limelight quite yet, but all exude overwhelming potential bound to power an upward trajectory into the New Year and beyond.

Tom Misch

A soothing voice, a unique hip hop-inspired style, and undeniably crisp production…that’s Tim Misch for you. It became clear that the 20-year old producer and multi-instrumentalist had prime skills with the Out To Sea EP in 2014, and he’s kept us captivated with a consistent string of impressive releases since.



This Australian trio epitomizes the recent overflow of talent coming from our friends down under. They sit comfortably at the cusp between indie and electronica, with an array of mesmerizing original releases tailored for a midnight drive or sleeping in on a Sunday morning with that special someone.


Alina Baraz

Her voice is simply flawless, and paired with Danish producer Galimatias’ buttery smooth production, these songs will catapult you into the most stimulating, dreamlike state of mind. Baraz’ debut tour sold out in every major city this year, so we can only imagine what will come of 2016.



If you’re fan of Chet Faker or the likes, get ready to fall in love with sultry British duo HONNE. Their name (本音) is Japanese term for “true feelings,” a very appropriate description for the heartfelt emotions infused in every one of their electronic-soul tracks.



When you come out of the gate with a killer release like Gold, you are essentially destined for stardom. Newcomer kiiara possesses a signature style that’s all her own–one that’s difficult to even put into words–that will effortlessly draw you in upon the first play. 2016 is set to be a breakout year for LA-based Garrett Borns, who initially stunned us with 10,000 Emerald Pools back in 2014. Basecamp is an electronic-meets-R&B act comprising three Nashville-bred gentleman by the names of Aaron Miller, Aaron C. Harmon, and Jordan Reyes. Maybe it’s their unique, organic beats, or maybe it’s the lead singer’s spell-binding voice, but something about Basecamp tells us that they will blow up in the foreseeable future.


Jack Garratt

From the entrancing vocal build up, to the hard-hitting drop that no one saw coming, The Love You’re Given is a key testament to Jack Garratt’s distinct and memorable flair. It’s no wonder why he won the Brit Awards Critics’ Choice Prize for 2016. Catch details for his current tour here.


Oh Wonder

Anthony & Josephine of Oh Wonder committed to releasing one song per month throughout the year of 2015, and they succeeded with flying colors. With an exponentially growing fan base and a particularly charming sound, the duo are currently prepping for an extensive US/Europe tour–check if they’re hitting your city here.



Slow Burn couldn’t be a more accurate title for this track by emerging producer, vocalist, and multi-­instrumentalist Crywolf.
